Celestials, the Astronomy Club of IIST, has been actively involving students in a variety of thrilling astronomical pursuits. Club members indulge in regular telescope sessions, providing them with an opportunity to peer into the night sky and expand their knowledge. Beyond the stargazing experiences, the club participates in Asteroid Search campaigns, allowing students to actively contribute to authentic scientific research through citizen science programs. To enlighten their academic journey, the club hosts professor lectures, offering valuable insights into various aspects of astronomy. Every alternate Saturday, this learning experience is further enriched as the club screens astronomy documentaries at the Open Amphitheatre (OAT). Currently more than 430 students of IIST are members of the club.
Venturing activities beyond the campus, Celestials collaborates with the NIRMAN club, the social welfare club of IIST. Together, we extend the passion for astronomy to rural areas and schools, by organising engaging outreach programs. These initiatives not only make astronomy more accessible but also inculcate interest in the field of Astronomy. Despite operating with limited volunteers, the club maintains a commendable consistency in organizing events, including active participation in IIST's annual technical fest, Conscientia. This commitment underscores Celestials dedication to promoting astronomy not only within the institute but also to a broader community beyond the campus walls. The club, in its pursuit of exploring the wonders of the universe, not only satiates its member's curiosity but also takes steps ahead to share this knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
