Inauguration of Art Gallery and Space Museum

The Art Gallery and Space Museum in the Interdisciplinary Block was inaugurated on 11th February 2025, by Prof. Dipankar Banerjee (Director,IIST), facilitated by Prof Kuruvilla Joseph (Registrar, IIST), the CMD, and the Humanities and Social Sciences Department . In the Space musuem there are 23 miniature space craft exhibits ranging from Aryabhata to Crew Module. The art gallery specializes in upcycled scrap installations and also paintings by famous artists like Shri. Marthandom Shri. Rajashelharan and Shri. Kannan Chitralaya.

Sky-watching Event at Technopark, Trivandrum

IIST's student astronomy club, Celestia, hosted a captivating sky-watching event at Technopark, Trivandrum, on Saturday, January 25, 2025. This unique opportunity allowed techies and their families to witness a rare planetary parade featuring Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. Over 1000 people were treated to breathtaking views of these celestial bodies through IIST's outreach telescope. Here are some pictures from the event.

IIST Annual Sports Meet

The annual sports meet for the academic year 2024-25 was conducted on 31 January 2025. The students participated in various sports events under the flags of five houses, namely; Akashganga, Devyani, Kritika, Saptarshi and Sharmista. The sports meet was inaugurated at 9.30 AM by the chief guest Mr. Shahansha M S IPS, Commandant Special Armed Police. Prof. Kuruvilla Joseph (Registrar and Dean-Academics) welcomed the gathering. Prof.Dipankar Banerjee,Director,IIST delivered the presidential address.

 

The Chief Guest received the salute from the march-pasts of various house teams. The Chief Guest ceremoniously commenced the sports meet by raising the IIST flag and initiated lighting the torch by handing over to Sports Captain Mr Shashank Singh IV year Aerospace followed by house captains. Following the formal inauguration function, the finals of various track and field events were conducted. Prof. J.Sheeba Rani, Chairman IIST sports committee, presented the vote of thanks.

Swachtha Pakhwada Activities

Swachh Bharath Abhiyan Implementation Committee (SBIC) organized a “Mass pledge and Cleaning Activity” in the Campus on February 1st 2025 (Saturday) as part of the Swachtha Pakhwada Campaign. It started with the Pledge at 9: 30 am followed by a Mass Cleaning drive from 9:45 -11:00 am. The Director, Registrar, many of the faculty, officers, staff and students of IIST whole heartedly took part in the Pledge and Cleaning activity.

Sound Sculptures : clay modelling workshop

Description/Content with Summary

Sound Sculptures : a therapeutic clay modelling workshop for the Visual Communication students was held on 16. 02. 2025 at Agasthya Park from 3. 30 pm to 7 pm. In this session, with the accompaniment of music, the students seasoned and manoeuvred clay as part of art making and experiential learning. The students worked with the famous sculptor and artist, Shri. Rajesh Twinkle to make human faces moulding clay. Sixty students attended the programme, along with faculty members and artists.

A team from IIST participated in the 43rd annual meeting of the Astronomical Society of India (ASI), held between 16-19 Feb 2025 at NIT-Rourkela. The team included Prof. Dipankar Banerjee, Director, IIST, who was the President of ASI, Prof. Sarita Vig, who is the Secretary of ASI, Prof. Umesh Kadhane – invited Plenary speaker and a number of PhD, Masters and undergraduate students. Prof Dipankar Banerjee delivered the Presidential address. Prof. Sarita Vig carried out the proceedings of the Inaugural and Concluding sessions as well as chaired the session on ASI Awards talks.
